Candy Cane Christmas Trees – Cheap Christmas Crafts for Kids

Please remember, I’m not crafty, I’m not a tutorial maker, and I have about as much passion for glitter and glue as every other guy out there. What I do enjoy though, is spending time with the tiny human and finding crafty things she enjoys doing to share with her. So that’s what this month is all about! Let Charlie have a little creative fun, get her excited for Christmas, and enjoy some quality time! Today we are making Candy Cane Christmas Trees!

Materials Needed

  • Felt
  • Glue
  • Candy Canes
  • Glitter

The Tree

This project truly is simple. Cut a tree shape out of some green felt. You can make your tree into any shape you like as long as you make it wide enough to fold in half. Don’t limit yourself to just trees. You can cut out toy soldiers, dolls, stars etc. So experiment and play. Once your tree is cut out, fold it in half and cut 2 slits about 1/8″ deep into the fold. This will create a slot for your candy cane.

You can decorate your ornament any way you like. We went with red PomPom’s and a little glitter on one because that’s what we had. Get creative and see what you can come up with.

Finishing touch

To finish off your tree, slide the candy cane stem through the open slits and hang it on your tree to enjoy! Your tiny human has their own ornament to be proud of!
